Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 31, 2026

On lerengitaarspelen.nl you read free articles and guides about playing guitar. We collect as little data about you as possible. This page explains which data we do process, why we do it and what your rights are.

Who is responsible?

Leren Gitaar Spelen (lerengitaarspelen.nl) is responsible for processing your personal data. Do you have a question about your data? Email ma**@***************en.nl.

What data we process and why

The newsletter and the free chord chart

When you sign up for the newsletter or request the chord chart (PDF), we store your email address, the list you are on and the time you signed up and confirmed. You first confirm your subscription through a link in your inbox (double opt-in). We only use your email address to send you the newsletter and the download.

We see whether a newsletter is opened and which links you click. That tells us which articles are useful. You can always unsubscribe with one click at the bottom of every email. After that, we send you nothing more.

The legal basis is your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.

Comments

When you post a comment below an article, we store your name, email address, the comment itself, your IP address and the time. Your name and comment are publicly visible; your email address is not. A profile picture from Gravatar may appear next to a comment. For that, an encoded version of your email address (a hash) is sent to Gravatar.

Spam protection

To prevent spam in comments and sign-ups, we use CleanTalk. What you enter in a comment or sign-up form, your IP address and technical data about your visit (such as your browser and the pages you viewed) are sent to CleanTalk and checked for signs of spam there. For this, every page loads a small script from CleanTalk. The legal basis is our legitimate interest: a site without spam.

Visitor statistics

We count visitors with Plausible Analytics, on a server we manage ourselves. Plausible does not use cookies and does not build profiles. We only see totals, such as the number of visitors per page, the referring website, the country and the type of device. Your IP address is not stored.

Hosting, security and backups

The website runs on our own virtual private server (VPS). The server keeps access logs that include your IP address, the requested page and the time. These logs are needed for security and to find errors. We do not use them to track visitors and do not keep them longer than necessary.

Traffic to the site goes through Cloudflare. Cloudflare provides the domain name service (DNS), protects the site against attacks and processes your IP address while doing so.

We make backups of the website, which are stored with an external storage service. These backups also contain the newsletter data and the comments.

Videos from YouTube

Some articles contain a video from YouTube. At first you only see a preview image, which comes from a YouTube (Google) server. Google sees your IP address when it loads. The video itself, with YouTube’s cookies, only loads when you click play.

Tools on the site

The tuner and the other tools work entirely in your browser. Sound from your microphone is not recorded, not stored and not sent to us or anyone else. Settings, such as the last tuning you chose, are only kept in your own browser.

Cookies

We do not set cookies to track you or for advertising. Only functional cookies and browser storage may be used, for example for spam protection or to remember a tool setting. If you watch a YouTube video, YouTube sets its own cookies.

Advertising

We currently do not show ads and do not use your data for advertising. That may change in the future. If we start showing ads, we will update this privacy policy first. If consent is required, for example for advertising cookies, we will ask for it in advance.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We only share it with services we need to run the site:

  • MailPoet, to send the newsletter and the download;
  • CleanTalk, for the spam check;
  • Cloudflare, for DNS and security;
  • the storage service for our backups;
  • YouTube (Google), only when you watch a video;
  • Gravatar, only when you post a comment.

Some of these services process data outside the European Union. In those cases the safeguards required by the GDPR apply, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep data

  • Newsletter: as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we send you nothing more.
  • Comments: as long as the comment is online.
  • Access logs: briefly, only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data. You can also object to the processing, restrict it and ask to receive your data in a portable format. Email ma**@***************en.nl to do so. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with a data protection authority, such as the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Changes

If anything changes in how we handle data, we will update this page. The date of the last change is at the top.
